Atlanta Unites for Homeless Heroes Day 2025: The Backpack Project, Inc. Leads a Powerful Day of Service
Atlanta showed its heart on November 21, 2025, as The Backpack Project, Inc. (TBP) hosted its annual Homeless Heroes Day at Westside Warehouse, bringing together corporate partners, volunteers, and community leaders for one of the city’s most meaningful service events of the year. The ATL Now was on-site to capture the impact, energy, and purpose that defined the day.
Held from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the event served as TBP’s largest annual fundraiser and its highest‑impact service initiative, dedicated specifically to supporting veterans experiencing homelessness across Atlanta.
A Mission Rooted in Service
Each year, Homeless Heroes Day mobilizes Georgia companies and volunteers to assemble thousands of backpacks filled with essential items — food, clothing, hygiene products, and more — all carefully selected and research‑validated to meet the real needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
Every backpack costs approximately $25 to produce and contains around 40 high‑quality items, each hand‑delivered by TBP volunteers to ensure personal connection and dignity in every interaction.
A Record‑Setting Day of Impact
This year’s event brought together philanthropic companies from across the metro area, all committed to hands‑on service and community engagement. Together, volunteers packed and prepared more than 1,000 backpacks for distribution throughout Atlanta, with a special focus on the city’s veteran homeless population.
The atmosphere inside Westside Warehouse was electric — a blend of teamwork, compassion, and civic pride. Corporate teams worked side by side, assembling backpacks, writing notes of encouragement, and learning more about the realities of homelessness in the region.
A Growing Legacy
Since its founding, The Backpack Project, Inc. has delivered over 13,500 backpacks to individuals experiencing homelessness across the Southeast, including communities in Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, Gainesville, and Savannah. The organization continues to expand its reach through chapters in Atlanta, Athens, Columbia (SC), and Durham (NC).
Homeless Heroes Day has become a cornerstone of TBP’s mission — a day that blends education, empathy, and action while strengthening Atlanta’s commitment to supporting those who have served our country.
Community, Connection, and Purpose
As volunteers completed their final backpacks and prepared for distribution, the sense of unity was unmistakable. Homeless Heroes Day is more than a service event — it’s a reminder of Atlanta’s capacity for compassion and the power of community-driven impact.
The ATL Now was proud to cover this year’s event, shining a spotlight on the organizations and individuals working to make Atlanta a more supportive and equitable city for all.
